Super Gamer’s first ever guest is back for a third time. Laura Intravia has toured with Video Games Live and Pokemon: Symphonic Evolutions, she’s featured on video game soundtracks, she’s now composed for a video game, and she’s got an opera performance at the Boston Center for the Arts coming up at the end of the month.
We talk music, we talk Smash, we talk cookies, we talk Bloodborne!
Be sure to stick around after the interview to hear a track from Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars, composed by Chad Seiter & Laura Intravia.
Today’s episode features the wildly talented Robby Duguay – composer, musician, nice fella! Find out what sets movie music composition apart from composing for games music, hear why jump scares don’t work in VR, and stick around to hear one of Robby’s spectacular tracks from Fossil Hunter.
Video Games Live kicked off its 14-show, 12-city Canadian tour in Winnipeg, MB on Monday. At the show, I got a chance to speak to VGL creator and performer (and industry icon) Tommy Tallarico. Have a listen, and find out why Mr. Tallarico thinks Beethoven would be a video game composer if he were alive today.
The video includes: the orchestra, led by Bryan Deans, playing Metal Gear Solid; Jason Paige singing the Pokemon theme song (with Tommy Tallarico on guitar); Winnipeg’s own SuperFX playing Halo; and … a box?
(By the way, I can’t seem to sing the Pokemon theme song without switching to the Transformers movie theme. “I know it’s my destiny. Pokemon! Oh, you’re my best friend — FROM THE EVIL UNICROOOON!”)

I love chiptunes. Who doesn’t love chiptunes? It brings me so much happiness to hear those sounds, and it makes me want to dance!
Well here’s my talk with Lazy Nerd 204, a chiptune artist and gamedev based in Winnipeg. One of his songs, Sup Day (I Spelled Sunday Wrong), is featured in the episode. I love it, I’m sure you will too!
Warriors, scholarly cats, merchant llamas, cyborgs, taxi hamsters, and ghosts are just some of what make up Towards the Pantheon, an adventure-rpg-survival horror under development by Connor O.R.T. Linning and his crack team.
The game looks great and the music is boss — in fact, we’ve got some boss music for you in the episode!
