Let me tell you about two video games.
You may have heard of them. I don’t know who you are or what you know. Here goes, anyway:
Tormentor X Punisher is out now on PC. This looks like heavy metal Smash TV. If you don’t like foul language and violence, this ain’t for you. Same goes for this post.
TxP’s gameplay trailer shows it to be a fast-paced, carnage-filled dodge fest. Everything dies in one hit, including you, including bosses. When you’re reloading, you’re still shooting (switching between machine gun and shotgun). And it all takes place on the planet Fuck You.
I linked the gameplay trailer. I shall embed the launch trailer, and then let us discuss.
I. love. this.
Intense badassery aside, this is pure storytelling. It reminds me of Demon’s Souls — hear me out. Demon’s Souls begins like this:
“On the first day, man was granted a soul, and with it, clarity. On the second day, upon Earth was planted an irrevocable poison; a soul-devouring Demon.”
Awesome. Beautiful. What more do you need? 1) Soul, clarity. 2) Poison, demon. Go!
It’s not like it’s lacking anything. It’s a good story. I feel the same way about TxP. 1) Demons make me mad. 2) Found me some demons. “LET’S FUCKING DO THIS!”
WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? Also it looks hilarious and the artwork in that trailer is wicked.
Okay, so there’s that.
Next: The Swords of Ditto.
It’s not out until early next year, but it will be on PC and PS4. It’s got Devolver Digital’s name attached to it so right off the bat I have high hopes. It’s developed by onebitbeyond.
A live gameplay debut will be broadcast on Twitch on Monday, June 12, at 7pm CST, but for now, a reveal trailer will have to do. I’m curious to see how the game handles player deaths. Every time you die, a new legend begins, with a new hero. Apparently, each success and failure is recorded, and impacts the game. The way characters ‘take up the sword’ in the reveal trailer makes me think of Rogue Legacy’s heir system but I’m really not sure if that’s how it works in Ditto. One thing I do know is you can find your fallen hero’s corpse and loot it.
There’s a co-op mode, but there’s definitely a boxy robot character in that trailer that makes me wonder if it’s going to be like co-op in Enter the Gungeon, in which second player is quite limited. There’s a not-so-boxy, not-a-robot friendly character in that trailer, too, though, so I don’t know what to think.
Anyhoo, we’ll learn more MONDAY!
